How to Add a File to In-App 'Resources'

App Wizard Logo

Each App built in the App Wizard framework has its own databank, known as 'In-App Resources' (or the 'Resource Manager'). All the images and files for each App are stored here. The following tutorial describes how to upload a file (e.g. an image file) into the App's 'Resources'. Uploading resource files is a fundamental process required for building your App.

Step 1

Step 1 Image
From the App's 'Dashboard' screen, select 'IN-APP RESOURCES' (as shown above). The App's 'Resource Files' will open in a pop-up window (i.e. the RESOURCE MANAGER).

Note:  You can also access 'CLOUD RESOURCES' from the App's 'Dashboard'. Although this option exists, we do not recommend that you store any of your App's files in 'CLOUD RESOURCES', as this will require constant Wi-Fi internet connectivity for the App to operate effectively. We recommend you place all your App's files in 'IN-APP RESOURCES'.

Step 2

Step 2 Image
In the 'RESOURCE MANAGER', select 'UPLOAD' (as shown above).

Step 3

Step 3 Image
Locate the required file (e.g. an image file) from the files stored locally on your computer. The example shown above indicates a file selection on a Mac computer.

Important: File names to be uploaded into the 'In-App Resources' must have NO SPACES and only contain letters, numbers and underscores (e.g. Example_File_Name_1).

Note: You can upload images, video and audio files via this method.

Tip: We recommend using .png or .jpg files for image files, .mp3 files for audio files and .mp4 files for video files.

Step 4

Select the file(s) you want to upload from your computer, then click 'Choose' (or 'Open', depending on your operating system).

Note: You can select multiple files to upload simultaneously by holding down the Command (or Control) button on your keyboard whilst selecting multiple files with your mouse.

Step 5

Step 5 Image
Wait for the file to upload. A progress bar will indicate the upload process. You will then return to the 'RESOURCE MANAGER' window (as shown below).

Step 6

Step 6 Image
Once the file is listed, it has been added to the 'In-App Resources' for your App. You may need to scroll down the list to locate a recently uploaded file.

Click on the file to check the file has uploaded correctly (1). A preview of the selected file will appear on the left-hand side (2). To assist searching, you can filter the file list to display image files only, by selecting the 'Image Button' (located on the top row of the 'RESOURCE MANAGER').

If the file has been uploaded correctly, click 'CLOSE' to return to the 'EDIT PAGES' screen for the App (3). You can now utilise the uploaded file in your App as required (for example, when editing a particular 'Element' in your App). For more information on adding files or images to the 'RESOURCE MANAGER' as part of the 'Element' editing process, go to How to Edit Page Images.
